Hot-dip coated and electrolytically coated products
The EU standard relating to the technical delivery conditions for "Continuously hot-dip coated and electrolytically coated strip and sheet of multiphase steels for cold forming" (DIN EN 10336) was published in July 2007.
This release replaces the previous draft dated October 2005.

With its installations of large scale facilities, equipment and systems the new pilot plant represents a key element in the rapid development of new steel materials and surface finishing and refinements, all the way through to the development of new application areas. These activities are the foundation for the fast-track further development of the product portfolio.

Salzgitter Flachstahl has set up a portal on which customers can specify and call up parameters of various different steel grades. In this way, Salzgitter Flachstahl is actively supporting customers in their material selection in the early stages of the development process.

Successful joint research venture between Salzgitter AG and the South Korean steel group POSCO. Developing new products for the automotive industry

Since 2002, the Korean steel group POSCO and Salzgitter Flachstahl have been collaborating at a technical level. “The significance of our cooperation lies in the fact that the two businesses are not positioned as competitors, neither in the steel market nor in the tubes business. Both companies manufacture steel, but their principal markets are too far apart from one another to have any notable mutual impact“, explains Hans Fischer, Member of the Executive Board Steel of Salzgitter AG.

Today, everyone’s talking about resources - and energy efficiency is high on the agenda. Day after day, news programs, talk shows and reports feature climate protection topics. The issues at hand include, for example, reducing the emissions budget as part of carbon trading, the alleged lack of awareness on the part of the automotive industry or energy-saving light bulbs.

The former “Personal 2025“ project has now evolved into ”GO“ – the Generation Offensive 2025 of Salzgitter AG.
Due to changes in the age group structures in Germany, the requirements of tomorrow’s world of work will not only be met by an increasingly smaller working population, but also by employees whose average age is considerably higher.

Salzgitter Flachstahl is hosting customer days in the Trading and Steel Service Center (SSC) sales area. This is an ideal opportunity for presenting the new properties of steel grades and steel qualities, as well as the associated changes in further processing to our customers and end customers in a comprehensive manner. At the same time, solutions to concrete problems can be worked out, while the existing good contacts to end consumers are strengthened.

In serving its customers from the automotive industry, the Salzgitter Group acts as a “single source provider.”
Salzgitter Flachstahl concentrates on what steel manufacturers are able to do best: producing steel in wide strip coil units in high volumes. The thinner dimensions, which are frequently required in smaller order batches, are provided by the Group colleagues at Hövelmann & Lueg. Headquartered in Schwerte, the input material comes from Salzgitter. This is of considerable importance for our customers with regard to plant and machining settings, and helps minimize retooling time and downtimes caused by materials flaws.

The degree of automation of the latest laser and plasma cutting plants featuring automatic feeding and delivery systems is continuing to rise. Requirements in terms of flatness and the distribution of stresses are increasingly accordingly, and this, in turn, means that ever higher demands are being made of cut-to-length hot strip.
Consequently, Salzgitter Flachstahl is investing in broad strip by building a new hot strip cut-to-length line.
