Since 1997, Amtrol-Alfa based in Guimaraes, Portugal, has belonged to the American parent company Amtrol Inc., together with the Polish subsidiary Amtrol Poland located in Swarzedz. Headquartered in Rhode Island, the company has been active since 1946. The core business areas revolve around the manufacturing of water installation facilities and systems (storage, processing, heating and continuous flow regulation of water), as well as solutions in the areas of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Amtrol-Alfa, Portugal, covers an additional business area, namely the production of gas cylinders. The gas cylinders find use in a wide range of applications: gas cylinders for the operation of fork lift trucks, containers for liquid gas such as propane or butane gas, coolants and technical gases and all the way through to hybrid gas cylinders and innovative developments such as the lightweight CoMet (Composite Metal) gas cylinders. The latter have already won awards for their concept and design in Australia, Japan, Germany and the USA. The annual production of gas cylinders at Amtrol-Alfa amounts to an average of some 5 million units.
The products are exported worldwide to customers in more than 100 countries. The customer roster includes leading corporations such as Linde, Total, Repsol, Boie and Drachengas.
The gas cylinders are subject to the most stringent safety regulations and these exacting demands made on the quality and reliability of the steel involved are consequently passed on to the company’s suppliers. In a continuous ongoing supplier relationship, Salzgitter Flachstahl has established itself as a strong partner fully meeting all the relevant demands and requirements. For more than ten years Salzgitter Flachstahl has been supplying Amtrol-Alfa with pickled hot-rolled wide strip and cold-rolled sheet steel, for further processing in the manufacture of high-grade gas cylinders. A strong focus is on customer specific, innovative solutions, such as the development of lightweight and higher strength steels. Both companies are committed to a joint continuous improvement process. Especially in challenging times, the relationships that have evolved and deepened in the course of years are a key advantage for all participants.
We look forward to the continued, mutually beneficial cooperation and the strong partnership forged between Amtrol-Alfa and Salzgitter Flachstahl.
