Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH is now in the process of implementing the REACh regulation

REACh stands for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals. The aim is to establish uniform European chemical legislation. According to REACh, only those materials and substances can be put into circulation that have been previously registered.
Against this backdrop, project teams concerned with the REACh regulation are being formed both on the Group level (Salzgitter AG) as well as on the level of Salzgitter Flachstahl.
 
According to the REACh regulation, Salzgitter Flachstahl has two roles to fulfill: on the one hand, the company is active as the manufacturer and importer of various materials and preparations, while also acting as a downstream user on the other hand.
The necessary preregistrations have been submitted on time for manufacturing as well as importing activities. By the beginning of December 2010, the registrations will also be completed for the necessary high volume materials and substances involving annual volumes in excess of 1000t.
In the role of a downstream user Salzgitter Flachstahl is actively committed to the future development of secured deliveries of our input materials against the backdrop of the REACh regulation.
These measures target a broad product application area within the context of registration and involve close cooperation with various associations, consortiums and customer groups.

Moreover, Salzgitter Flachstahl is also observing the development of the so-called candidate list. The candidate list contains so-called SVHC, or substances of very high concern, and is a significant instrument within the context of the REACh regulation approval process. The candidate list is updated in regular intervals. All of the substances and materials on this list are being evaluated in terms of production and marketing bans.
