Folastal^®- Monitored products for applications in exterior construction

National building legislation stipulates the qualitative standards to be satisfied by construction products used in Germany. The DIN standard 55928-8, which regulates corrosion protection due to coating substances for trapezoidal profiles and other thin-walled structural members made of steel, is particularly significant for Folastal^® (strip-coated products). It stipulates corrosion classes that are coordinated to the atmospheric corrosion stress, the necessary protection period and the accessibility of the components. Suitable corrosion protection systems that satisfy these requirements are assigned to these corrosion protection classes.

Sandwich elements or trapezoidal profiles for the roof and wall that are intended for exterior construction use must be coated with a system in corrosion protection class KIII. Polyester and polyvinylidene fluoride systems (PVDF) are most commonly used here.

Folastal^® products with a polyester or PVDF coating in corrosion protection class KIII have already proven satisfactory in exterior construction use for decades.  In order to give the customer the required certainty, the quality of these systems is monitored and certified at periodic intervals by a testing centre recognized by the Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt). This ensures that not only is the quality of the products additionally monitored externally, the company's own internal system for self-monitoring is also periodically inspected by an independent authority. These steps allow Salzgitter Flachstahl to offer its customers products with a verification of suitability for construction applications.
