Risse + Wilke Kaltband and Salzgitter Flachstahl: „A perfect match“

It clicks into place when a seat belt is fastened …
It rotates when the lawn is mowed ...
It ensures smooth action when a drawer is pulled out ...

They all have one thing in common: they could all be parts made from cold-rolled strip by Risse + Wilke Kaltband, which means that they probably originated in one of the blast furnaces in Salzgitter, Germany. Whether a belt buckle tongue, a blade or a drawer slide – they are all high-tech products based on perfect hot-rolled strip.

In the meantime, the business relationship between the cold-rolling mill in Iserlohn, Germany and Salzgitter Flachstahl has entered its seventh year, and the delivery volumes continue to rise (see diagram).

The two parties are unanimous in their assessment of the relationship: “It’s a perfect match.” Which is also due to the fact that both companies advocate and live the same philosophy:

• Surpassing competitors
• Manufacturing premium products
• Offering outstanding flexibility, continuity and reliability
• Ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction

The companies are now shaping the future with great optimism, after successfully coping with the painful year 2009 in spite of (or thanks to) incisive measures.

Since late 2008, Risse + Wilke Kaltband has been operating its third modern quenching and tempering line from Ebner to manufacture products that are easy to process and handle, while extremely tough and wear-resistant at the same time. For example, Salzgitter Flachstahl has supplied a C55S grade with bainitic structures and a decarburized rim zone after quenching and tempering that fully satisfies the end customer's requirements and delivers an optimal combination of the necessary characteristics.

Application areas include razor-sharp punching guides that are used in manufacturing cardboard articles and in the textile and paper industries.

Some examples of the hardened steel strip end products at Risse und Wilke Kaltband made of hot rolled wide strip manufactured by Salzgitter Flachstahl comprise blades and shears for gardening tools, chain saws, circular saws, putty knives, smoothing trowels, clutch plates and springs, runners and many more.

We are continuing to build on our trust based partnership and successful cooperation.
