The zinc layer is deposited on the sheet surface by an approx. 450 °C hot liquid zinc bath. The desired coating thickness is adjusted by means of compressed air jets. As a rule, galvanising takes place in a lead-free zinc bath. This leads to the formation of a fine-grained crystalline structure of the zinc layer (spangle effect).
The hot-dip galvanising line 2 was designed to guarantee a high-quality steel surface suitable for exterior vehicle parts, as well as the manufacture of isotropic and multi-phase steel grades. To this end, the line is designed as vertical system with preliminary cleaning. The furnace consists of a conventional annealing unit with cooling zone and induction unit for rapid heating – that is connected with a rapid cooling zone.
In combination with the skin pass stand installed downstream in the production line, a fine PRETEX® surface structure is produced to meet high processing standards. A stretcher leveler ensures good coil flatness, while finishing with chromate passivation improves surface corrosion protection during storage and transport. As surface treatment "oiled", Prelube oil or Hotmelt can be applied.
