Seca® and Seca®xtra: Optimal conditions for laser cutting

Increasing use of laser cutting

The utilization of laser cutting machines deployed in processing has increased significantly in recent years. The advantages of laser cutting are obvious: for example, the method offers high flexibility due to low minimum unit quantities and boasts other positive economic effects achieved through high material utilization.

However, the resulting release of tension in steel caused by laser cutting is problematic since it can produce a change in the material properties at the edge of cuts. This effect can lead to complications during subsequent processing steps and may cause damages in the cutting laser.

Optimal conditions with seca®

In order to counter these problems and create optimal conditions for laser cutting, Salzgitter Flachstahl developed seca®. This involves hot-rolled sheets with guaranteed ultralow flatness deviation on the plate or panel. We’ve also supplemented our product range with the seca®xtra – here, we guarantee maximal deviations in flatness, also for cut components.

Your benefits at a glance

Designed specifically for laser cutting, seca® and seca®xtra offer you both production as well as cost benefits.

  • Optimized internal stress and consistent material properties minimize warping risk when cutting.
  • Guaranteed minimum flatness tolerances reduce the need for follow-up processing and facilitate a trouble-free production process.
  • The consistently high quality of seca® and seca®xtra facilitates subsequent processing steps such as reshaping and welding.

Salzgitter Flachstahl warrants the following flatness tolerances for seca® on the plate or panel and for seca®xtra on the plate or panel and on the cut component - compared here to normal flatness in the specifications of EN 10051:

Strength Class A
Nominal width w Normal flatness seca® seca®xtra
≤ 1,200 mm 15 mm 5 mm 5 mm
1,200 < w ≤ 1,500 mm 18 mm 6 mm 6 mm
> 1,500 mm 23 mm 8 mm 8 mm*
Strength Class B
