Salzgitter Flachstahl's
Tender
Battery Energy Storage System
Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH is the largest steel subsidiary of Salzgitter AG. In 2024, 5,906 employees produced around 4.3 million tons of crude steel and generated a turnover of 3.6 billion euros. With the SALCOS® transformation program, primary steel production at the integrated steelworks in Salzgitter is being gradually converted to low-CO2 crude steel production. As part of the transformation, the previous carbon-based production process will be replaced by a new steel production route based on renewable energies. Once the final stage has been completed, up to 95% of the current annual direct CO2 emissions of around 8 million tons can be saved. This means that around one percent of Germany's CO2 emissions can be avoided at the Salzgitter site alone.
Our tender for a
sustainable transformation
To achieve almost climate-neutral steel production as part of our SALCOS® program, we are conducting a tender for the investment, construction and operation of a battery energy storage system on our steelworks site to compensate the volatile generation of renewable energies, optimize the costs of grid usage and at the same time ensure continuous production.
Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH is looking for a partner who will independently invest in a battery energy storage system on its plant site and take over its operation. In return, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH pays a monthly price for the provision to optimize its schedules on the spot and intraday market and to reduce the maximum supply capacity. An additional trading option by the partner is possible.
