Advance Notice for the Hannover Messe 2016

This year's HANNOVER MESSE will be held from 25 - 29 April 2016 under the motto "Integrated Industry - Discover Solutions". Five leading international fairs concentrating on specific topics dealing with the age of networked industry will be running simultaneously at the world's most important industrial trade fair. The subjects include the digital control and steering of energy systems as well as mature and perfected Industry 4.0 technologies. Salzgitter AG and its subsidiaries will be exhibiting material developments and services for the industrial and automotive sectors at the "Industrial Supply" trade fair in Hall 6, Stand F02.

Eye-catching exhibits will showcase the range of the Salzgitter Flachstahl materials portfolio. As a special highlight, a VW Golf GTI chassis will be on display to illustrate the powerful innovation resulting from the group-wide cooperation in the Salzgitter AG Initiative Automotive program. As a part of the Initiative Automotive, interdisciplinary project teams work closely with customers and partners to develop economical and effective solutions for the chassis, body and drive.
The VW Golf GTI chassis that will be displayed contains numerous components made of special, ultra-high strength steels from Salzgitter Flachstahl (SZBS800, SZBS800xpand^® and SZBS600, SZBS600xpand^®). The grades meet the tough demands for chassis components. For example, SZBS800 offers high strength combined with very good formability, enabling the implementation of complex, highly stressed chassis parts.
xpand^® steels guarantee an increased hole expansion ratio. Here, the special feature is the high formability down to the edge area. Consequently, these steels are suitable for particularly difficult formed parts with complex geometries and are available as hot-dipped zinc-coated sheet and as hot-rolled strip. Because xpand^® steels have reduced edge crack susceptibility, a reduced breakdown risk is possible in spite of thinner sheet thicknesses.

Another highlighted product that Salzgitter Flachstahl will be presenting at the trade fair stand is the body shell qualities of its StronSal^® product. The car roof to be displayed has been coated with the StronSal^® zinc-magnesium coating, which now fulfils the requirements placed on automotive body shell parts. After successfully completing a release test at a well-known automaker, material in StronSal^®-MC is now immediately available.
Thanks to the improved corrosion protection, StronSal^®-MC reduces the coating thickness without any loss of corrosion protection. Moreover, the lower zinc content leads to weight savings that have positive effects on the CO₂ balance.
The especially good tribological characteristics are an additional argument favoring the use of StronSal^®-MC in the body shell. Due to its optimized friction characteristics, StronSal^®-MC offers carmakers additional savings potentials, as breakdowns and reworks by casts are greatly reduced.
