Bisalloy secures partnership with major German steel producer

Bisalloy Steels, Australia's only manufacturer of high-tensile and abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate, has signed a partnership with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG, a German-based company with more than 150 years of steel-making experience.

The deal will not only ensure Bisalloy’s supply of green feed, but also help deepen the company’s European ties.

“The establishment of this partnership comes during a period of sustained growth for Bisalloy, not only at home in Australia but also abroad. As our exports rise, we are intent on strengthening our presence in larger markets around the world,” said Bisalloy’s Business Development Manager Justin Suwart.

“This partnership with Salzgitter AG will bolster our position in Europe, while also providing us the opportunity to pursue some key R&D programs, including the development of world-leading quenched and tempered steel grades.”

With a history dating back to 1858 and an annual output of around 7 million tonnes, Salzgitter AG is one of Europe’s largest steel producers. The Plate/Section Steel business unit of the company includes Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, Salzgitter Europlatinen GmbH, Salzgitter Bauelemente GmbH and Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice GmbH.

Bisalloy selected Salzgitter AG from a list of several well-qualified potential partners. It made the choice on the grounds that Salzgitter AG displayed the greatest willingness to embrace the partnership, as well as the strongest production and R&D capabilities.
