Certificates and approvals from Salzgitter Flachstahl

Quality is the priority at Salzgitter Flachstahl. However, this requires comprehensive process descriptions, process data capture, assessment and documentation. This is just as necessary for the continuous improvement of product quality and process improvement as for customer satisfaction. Salzgitter Flachstahl's performance capability is proven daily and documented with certifications which increase the trust of business partners. Independent certification agencies have been inspecting the performance capability on site here for 20 years. The basis is formed by annual surveillance audits and comprehensive accreditation audits in a 3-year rhythm with the objective of extending the corresponding certificates.

At Salzgitter Flachstahl the activities for maintaining standards lead to an "integrated management system" (IMS). This combines topics for quality assurance (DIN EN ISO 9001, ISO TS 16949), energy (DIN EN ISO 50001), occupational protection (BS OHSAS 18001) as well as the environment (DIN EN ISO 14001). The Energy Efficiency Award from the German Energy Agency (dena) honors the successful measures taken by the SZFG for the conservation of resources.

But it is not only the management systems which are regularly inspected by independent institutions, but also the quality and production of special steels. Thus, for example, shipbuilding steels have to meet the standards of various certification agencies. These include German Lloyd (GL), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

The German railroad company - Deutsche Bahn AG (DBAG) - specifies requirements for steels used in rail vehicle or bridge construction in their DBS Guidelines. The certificate "HPQ" (manufacturer-related product qualification) confirms the capability of the particular steel producer.

In construction, officially issued product and compliance certificates are the basis for the shipment and approval of defined structural steels and/or coatings such as FolaSal® and StronSal®. The pre-material for pressure vessels must meet the EU Directive 97/23/EU.

In order to document the importance of the quality philosophy and to develop additional trust in the test results, two years ago Salzgitter Flachstahl underwent a comprehensive and far-reaching accreditation process by the German Accreditation Body DAkkS.
