Competence in testing – DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation

03.04.2019 | Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH

The demands made on steel products are rising: less weight at lower cost, increasingly complex components, higher demands on safety and sustainable production. And given the ever-higher quality requirements expected of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH products, objective, unambiguous and reliable input material analyses, process analytics and product testing are indispensible. The testing procedures employed must conform with the corresponding standards, laws and directives. Equally essential is the ability to carry out all these tests with the appropriate high degree of professional competence. An accreditation by the German National Accreditation Body DAkkS provides documentary proof that these requirements are met.

The requirements for the accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories are laid down in DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. The procedure by which to achieve this accreditation is complex: The Chemical Laboratories, Emissions Protection Laboratory and Materials Testing Department at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH have undergone and successfully passed extensive modular expert evaluations, culminating in the award of an accreditation certificate.

The competence confirmed by DAkkS with regard to the testing procedures applied by Salzgitter Flachstahl extends across the entire bandwidth of physical, physical-chemical and chemical tests, as well as workplace and emission measurements. Moreover, this includes mechanical-technological investigations ranging from metallic materials to the analysis of drinking water and encompasses well over 100 testing procedures in total.

The existing DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation of the testing systems at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH not only provides evidence of the quality of the company’s workmanship. It also reinforces the acceptance of the testing results in compliance with international standards.
