Hannover Messe 2016 Highlights

US President Barack Obama, representing Partner Country USA, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the HANNOVER MESSE, which was held under the motto of "Integrated Industry – Discover Solutions!" from April 25 to 29 2016. At the world's most important industrial trade fair, five leading international exhibitions offered extensive information on Industrie 4.0 technologies and networked industry. Salzgitter AG and its subsidiaries presented their products and services for the industrial and automotive sectors at the "Industrial Supply" exhibition which revolved around innovative supplier solutions and lightweight construction.

At the Salzgitter Flachstahl stand, vivid exhibits illustrated the broad range of the company's materials portfolio and the powerful innovation taking place in group-wide cooperation within the context of Initiative Automotive. On display as a special highlight was a compact car chassis that contains numerous components from the special Salzgitter Flachstahl ultra high strength steels, such as SZBS800, SZBS800xpand^® and SZBS600, SZBS600xpand^®. The grades meet the tough demands made on chassis components.

For example, SZBS800 offers high strength combined with very good formability, enabling the implementation of complex, highly stressed chassis parts. xpand^® steels guarantee a higher hole expansion ratio and high formability level down into the edge area. They are consequently suitable for especially difficult, complex formed parts with demanding geometries.

In close cooperation with customers and partners, Initiative Automotive is developing cost efficient and effective solutions for the chassis, body and drivetrain.

Salzgitter Flachstahl presented another highlighted product, StronSal^® MC, using a car roof coated with this product as an example. StronSal^® MC is a guarantee for the highest body shell quality and offers an outstanding paint appearance for the most demanding requirements in the automotive industry. The coating's unique composition significantly improves the steel’s corrosion barrier. In the cut edge corrosion test as defined by VDA 621-4115, StronSal^® shows corrosion resistance that is at least twice as high as that of conventional zinc coatings. With a significantly reduced thickness, it is possible to offer at least the same corrosion protection as conventional zinc coatings.
The reduced zinc use lowers the weight and consequently has a positive impact on the carbon footprint. This means lower costs and an important contribution to lightweight automobile construction.

On Tuesday, the Salzgitter AG Customer and Partner Day was held directly at the trade fair stand for the first time. This special event offered a welcome opportunity for interested parties to discuss current trends and developments in the steel industry.

At this year’s fair, Salzgitter AG Human Resources Marketing came up with something very special regarding careers. In addition to advice on internships, entry level jobs and work possibilities in the Salzgitter Group, an unusual exhibit was featured at the trade fair stand: talking PET bottles from the affiliate KHS. Augmented reality was harnessed to convert information printed on bottles using the direct print method into film sequences to provide consumers with further useful information.
