Salzgitter Flachstahl has commissioned Primetals Technologies with the comprehensive modernization of the power electronics of the slab sizing press in the hot strip mill in Salzgitter. Salzgitter Flachstahl's hot strip mill produces hot wide strip in a thickness range of 1.5 to 25 mm and widths of 900 mm - 2000 mm. Primetals Technologies received this order following the completion of a successful project on the cropping shear in the same hot rolling mill.
Increased availability of the slab sizing press
The slab sizing press is designed to reduce the width of preheated slabs by up to 350 millimetres. The drive technology of the system is divided into two groups: the main drive, which is supplied via a direct converter, and the auxiliary drives, which are supplied via DC link converters with a common DC link. The project involves renewing the converter technology for all drives in both groups. The aim is to increase the availability of the production plant and enable a future-proof supply of spare parts for the power electronics.
The scope of supply includes a new direct inverter for the main press drive and new low-voltage inverters for the drive rollers and mechanical drives, as well as implementation and commissioning services. The installation of the new converters and the replacement of the drive systems will take place during the planned standstill periods.
