The integration of SMS Fellbach/Karlsruhe into Salzgitter AG in 2011 significantly bolstered the Salzgitter AG service center business. The merger of the SMS Fellbach/Karlsruhe and Hövelmann & Lueg/Schwerte service centers into Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice GmbH in 2014 created a modern company within Salzgitter AG with great growth potential.
The volume that Salzgitter Flachstahl delivered to Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice rose by roughly 75 percent in the years 2010 to 2015. A special focus here is on the product variety. For example, in 2015 some 2,000 different grades/dimension combinations were delivered. The individual lot sizes here varied from 3 tons for smaller trial lots and trial deliveries to 16,000-ton items for automobile production deliveries.
Salzgitter Flachstahl delivers almost its entire product range to Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice: from relatively simple basic grades/storage grades to ultra high strength, microalloyed automotive grades, from black hot-rolled strip to the most demanding FolaSal® products for the household appliance industry.
Deserving special mention here is the close cooperation between Salzgitter Flachstahl and Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice, with the inclusion of Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung in our end customers' development and optimization processes. Countless joint projects were supported all the way through to the successful product delivery at the end customer.
Particularly successful projects with well-known automotive customers and suppliers are, for example, the introduction of hot-dipped zinc-coated hot-rolled strips (AcaSal®700 and SZBS800+StronSal®) for safety and automotive formed parts and the use of cold-rolled strip products in large widths as a substitute for medium-wide strip.
To improve the service quality for our customers, we are continuously at work on optimal solutions for administrative tasks between Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice and Salzgitter Flachstahl.
