Steel: a wide range of design parameters for customized products

Our products represent the foundation for mastering the highly specialized tasks of our customers. The entire product portfolio is available for an extensive range of applications across a wide variety of sectors, such as automotive engineering, construction, white goods and household appliances, agriculture, energy and the entire industrial arena. 
 
The important characteristics of the steel product, such as the particular chemical composition of a steel grade, special mechanical-technological parameters or dimensional tolerances, are precisely defined at the end customer.  
 
The term "steel product" covers a wide range of technical properties that are necessary for processing customer inquiries and orders.

In this context, not only the respective steel product (hot-rolled wide strip, strip steel, strip plate, cold-rolled sheet and surface-treated products) has to be determined, but also the following parameters:

• Chemical composition 
• Mechanical-technological parameters 
• Dimensions and dimensional tolerances
• Weight and packing
• Surface finishings
• Additional requirements for the coating
• Processing properties 
• Manufacturing route (e.g.: Hot strip - normalized rolled or thermomechanically rolled hot strip or hot-dip galvanized sheet - skin pass / undressed) 

In order to meet this diversity of requirements, Salzgitter Flachstahl offers an extensive portfolio of steel grades and dimensions. The wide range of specific product properties is generated for the consumer by way of the targeted selection of, among other things, alloying concepts, rolling parameters and many other production parameters at Salzgitter Flachstahl's state of the art production facilities.
In order to meet our customers' specific requirements in terms of chemical composition, we discuss and agree the appropriate proportions of macro- (e.g. C, Mn) and micro-alloying elements (e.g. Nb, Ti, Cr, V) together with customers. Likewise, special mechanical-technological properties such as toughness, strength, elongation or formability are particularly significant importance for some consumers.

Together with our clients, we test the manufacturability of the steel product according to the specific technical requirements. Based on sample deliveries, the consumer qualifies these steel products and then introduces them into series production.
