StronSal® MC

A car's body shell places high demands on the sheet's surface quality. The surface should be resistant to corrosion while also offering the best paintability. The vehicle's appearance should also meet the highest demands.

Thanks to its alloying with 1-2% magnesium and 1-2% aluminum, the innovative StronSal® MC coating offers a number of advantages over a conventional coating with standard zinc.

In particular, the corrosion protection is significantly improved. A thinner coating of StronSal® allows the same corrosion protection offered by standard zinc. The reduced use of zinc conserves resources while also allowing the potential of lightweight vehicle construction, which can reduce CO2 emissions during use.
StronSal® MC also offers advantages during processing. Its improved friction characteristics reduce the zinc abrasion in the mold. The process stability increases due to extended cleaning intervals combined with reduced mold wear. The coating consequently offers the potential to reduce costs and increase the pressing plant's productivity.

The painting and joining properties are comparable to those of hot-dip zinc coated material.

More and more customers are being won over by StronSal® MC's multitude of outstanding features. For example, Salzgitter Flachstahl is already delivering StronSal® MC to the first OEM automakers in series for automotive body shell elements. Sample coils have additionally been delivered to a number of customers from the OEM and automotive supply industry sectors.

Feedback on product quality and processing results have been very positive so far.

Due to the very gratifying response, Salzgitter Flachstahl expects that StronSal® MC will become increasingly accepted in automobile manufacturing.
