StronSal®-MC: a ZnMg2 coating that sets the standards

27.01.2016 | Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH

The success of modern industrial companies depends on the ability to continue mastering new challenges.
With the new product StronSal®-MC Salzgitter Flachstahl has developed a ZnMg2 coating for thin sheet that now also meets the demands and requirements made on automotive body shell parts.

Constant enhancements have combined the positive characteristics of the StronSal® coating with a surface look consistent with body shell requirements, which has resulted in the StronSal®-MC product.

Testing at a renowned carmaker has been successfully concluded, and the approval and release as supplier for body shell parts that have been coated with StronSal®-MC is expected in the immediate future. Test processing at other automakers has already been arranged and scheduled.

Thanks to its improved corrosion protection, StronSal®-MC ensures that the coating's thickness can be reduced without any loss of corrosion resistance. In addition to reducing the use of zinc, this also yields weight savings, which have positive effects on the CO2 balance.

The especially good tribological characteristics are a further argument favoring the use of StronSal®-MC in the body shell area. Thanks to the optimized friction characteristics, StronSal®-MC offers automakers additional savings potentials, as the significantly reduced abrasion in the tool greatly reduces breakdowns and rework due to casts.

In summarizing, it can be stated that with StronSal®-MC Salzgitter Flachstahl has created an innovative coating for the automotive industry for the production of high-quality body shell parts, while retaining the all the advantages of the StronSal® coatings.
