Technical requirements in the Steel Service Center

Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH has worked successfully with the steel service centers for decades. The primary task of the steel service centers is to process the material through slitting, producing sheets or also cutting. The products from these processes are then delivered to a wide range of different sectors: automotive manufacturers and their suppliers, agricultural machinery production, the furniture, construction and household appliances industries, to mention only a few of the numerous industrial fields.

The technical requirements placed on steel service centers that operate internationally are equally diverse. The products delivered encompass the entire product range of Salzgitter Flachstahl. Deliveries range from black, non-pickled hot coil through to cold-rolled sheet and on to surface-coated thin sheet. The characteristic properties of each individual product from Salzgitter Flachstahl are subject to precise technical specifications that are tailored specifically to customer’s area of application. The process takes account not only of national and European standards but also of the various international standards. In addition, the particularities of the individual customer must also be considered in addition to the special requirements of the diverse industrial applications. End customers may require, for instance, a special chemical composition of a steel grade, special mechanical and technological parameters and/or dimensional tolerances. It is precisely these special requirements that are implemented at Salzgitter Flachstahl to the highest precision for the customer, from manganese-boron steels for wear-resistant applications in the agricultural industry right through to high-strength dual phase steel for one of the large automotive manufacturers.

Numerous developments are carried out in joint cooperations between end customers and the steel service centers. For instance, a significant improvement in the process of manufacturing a component was achieved through precisely coordinating the chemical composition of a micro-alloyed steel grade with the end customer.

The cutting-edge technology in the facilities of Salzgitter Flachstahl and new approaches in the process route for producing steel cater to the needs of end customers. A large number of new sheet products were qualified based on samples delivered and contributed to the progressive product design at the end customer of the steel service centers.
