After 36 years of very successful cooperation, Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Grethe is leaving the management of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH and retiring. On May 1, Dr. Heike Denecke-Arnold will take over as Chairman of the Management Board of Salzgitter Flachstahl.

Ulrich Grethe began his career as a trainee at the former Stahlwerke Peine-Salzgitter AG after studying metallurgy and materials science at Clausthal Technical University. Here, he made a name for himself in various positions of managerial responsibility up to plant manager at the steelworks.
He has been a member of the Management Board of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH since 2006 and has been its Chairman since 2010. In addition, he has been a member of the Group Management Board since 2014, responsible for the Strip Steel Division and later for the Steel Production Division.

Gunnar Groebler, Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG, commented: “Ulrich Grethe has played a key role in shaping Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. His path from trainee to Chairman of the Executive Board and member of the Group Executive Board is emblematic of what can be achieved with drive, expertise and personal integrity. He has initiated and shaped many of the decisions taken over the past decades. Ulrich Grethe is therefore responsible for ensuring that the Salzgitter steel location has the necessary potential to remain a leader.”

We would like to thank him for his extraordinary commitment and wish him all the best for the rest of his life.
